COGNITIVE MAP
A cognitive map is a visual representation of an individual's thoughts, ideas, and concepts, illustrating the relationships between them. In the context of English teaching, cognitive mapping is a powerful tool that enables students to organize, structure, and connect their ideas, promoting deeper understanding and critical thinking. By creating cognitive maps, students can visually represent complex concepts, identify patterns and relationships, and develop their analytical skills. In English language teaching, cognitive mapping can be applied to various areas, such as literary analysis, vocabulary building, and essay writing, helping students to better comprehend and internalize the material.
The unit taken for cognitive mapping were 'Braving the Hazards' and "Flights of Freedom". The former unit contains 3 chapters, which includes a essay, story, and a poem. The latter unit contains 4 chapters which includes a speech, poem, story, and anecdote. The former unit focusses on disasters, and different types of disasters, courage and the greatest tragedies at sea. Each chapter contains disaster related subthemes. Those concepts are listed. 'Flights of Freedom' emphasizes emancipation and empowerment of women is of prime importance.
